Camp Inspire

On Friday, January 27, our students who attended Camp Inspire were joined by Johnsburg and North Warren students to reinforce the leadership skills they developed over the summer. They revisited the Problem Solving and Goal Setting component which began with each student sharing a goal from the summer or the start of the school year they accomplished. They were then challenged to identify a goal for 2023 and create a plan to achieve the goal by using the SMART goals system, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely.

The students then participated in the “Tennis Ball Transfer Challenge,” a problem solving activity that promotes cooperation, communication, and teamwork. The students broke into groups of eight to ten and were given a “magic tennis ball” that would lose its magic powers if allowed to touch the ground. Each group member had to touch the ball once with only one person touching it at a time, and figure out the fasted way to pass the ball without letting it touch the ground.

Their second challenge was to get the ball to the foul shot line with each student only allowed to use one hand. Each student had to touch the ball at least once and it had to be in someone’s hand at all times. The ball could not be thrown and the students had to figure out the fasted way to accomplish this.

Each student created their own vision board, which is a collage of images and words related to one’s goals, and serves as inspiration and motivation to achieve them. Students were encouraged to keep their vision board in a place where they see it every day to be inspired and motivated in achieving their goal.

The students will meet next on Monday, March 27, and will revisit the Perseverance and Resilience component.
